Meredith Shines the Spotlight on…Michele Scism
Name: Michele Scism, CEO
Business Name(s): Decisive Minds
Give us a brief overview about you and your business:
Sure, I absolutely love business. I started working at the family grocery store at the age of 5 because I thought that was what everyone did. Heck, they paid in toys so I thought I had hit the jackpot. From that point on I never looked back. I got a degree in Accounting so I could understand and read financials and went on to build and sell our multi-million dollar family trucking company.
In January of 2010 I realized that I could combine my love for entrepreneurs with my business knowledge and created Decisive Minds. I now teach entrepreneurs how to build businesses using social media and online marketing. I love the creation process and helping each business owner develop a profitable business.
Tell us three words that describe yourself:
Decisive, Driven, Laughing
Who are your mentors and why?
I have had so many great business mentors in my short 3 years in this business – right now I am working with 2 fabulous women! Suzanne Evans is setting the world on fire and I adore her. I started working with her because she has built a multi-million dollar coaching business in a very short time and has such an open heart and shares what she has done that works and what she did that didn’t work. My second mentor is Jane Deuber who has built and sold several million dollar businesses. She has a powerful presence and is extremely driven but has found a way to have her success and a happy family life as well. I started working with her because she built the DSWA into what it is today and I have an association that I am building as well.
What’s next for your business?
In 2013 we are looking at different ways to do events. We will be doing more simulcasting so we can reach a bigger audience and we will be focusing on building our association as well – The Global Social Media Managers Association.
Current business challenge:
We are in the process of training new team members and that can always be a bit tricky.
What are your thoughts on how you view your competition?
I actually don’t spend a lot of time focused on my competition. I believe that if I market my business and focus on my ideal clients there will be a constant flow of new clients.
How do you live your brand?
I make quick decisions, I take massive action and I am constantly laughing.
Favorite way to build buzz, create celebrity and change the world:
Most of our buzz comes from social media and speaking. It definitely took me from unknown in this industry to an internationally recognized authority.
Best business decision:
To get started!
Hardest lesson learned:
I waited 6 months to do my 1st teleseminar – big mistake!
