Simple and Fast PR Tips, Tools and Resources

Want to freshen up your PR efforts in fast, actionable ways? If so, you are in the right place. I’ve rounded up some tips, tools and resources that you may find helpful.

  1. Are you looking for advice or want to share some of your own? Check out BizWomen’s “Conversations” section on their web site. It may provide you with a great opportunity to expand your connections and get a media credit: http://www.bizjournals.com/bizwomen/conversations
  1. photo-funiaShare the spirit of your business through photos with PhotoFunia.com. By using this crazy-simple web site, you can create fun photos for social media updates or place yourself on a magazine cover for your vision board. (CAUTION – this site is addictive. At least to me! Some of my clients have received fun photos of themselves from me!)
  1. People ask me how to get copies of their TV spots because TV stations will not send them to you. I use http://www.columbusnewsclips.com/. They record and monitor news in 190 other markets across the US and even internationally. If your area is not covered, head over to Google and search for “news clipping service + your city” and see what pops up.
  1. Here’s one way to be seen online if you are a foodie: http://community.today.com/foodclub/faq

  1. twitter birdTwitter Fans: Follow #‎JournoRequests, #HARO and #URGHARO to find journalists who need people like you for their articles. Simple scroll through their feed to see what’s new and if you can fulfill a need, you may just land some free press! Go get ’em!
  1. I recently heard about a tool called Google Analytics URL Builder. Here’s what they say about it: With this tool, you can easily tag URLs with custom campaign variables. That way, you can track which of your promotions are generating the most traffic/conversions. For example, consider setting up a unique URL for each status update or wall post you use when promoting a link on Facebook. https://raventools.com/gaconfig/google-analytics-url-builder/
  1. Confused by press releases? Check out this infographic called “The A to Z of Press Releases: http://www.ragan.com/Main/Articles/d4b3b4d5-66a5-45f7-be8d-09d8d586f771.aspx
  1. hashtagQuestions about hashtags to communicate your message and reach others interested in your expertise? Hubspot recently published a great tutorial/article for you: http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/hashtags-twitter-facebook-instagram
  1. Want to build a relationship with bloggers in your industry but don’t know where to find them? Try a free trial on Inkybee. http://www.inkybee.com
  1. Not sure what to write about for your blog or newsletter? Check out “The Talkers 10.” It’s a list of the people and topics that are being discussed on talk radio… this week. Talk about timely and relevant! Jump into the conversation by sharing a tip that relates to your expertise with your local media or in a “hot topics” inspired article for your blog, newsletter or relevant social media groups. http://www.talkers.com/week/
  1. Have you recently hired someone? Gained professional recognition? Been asked to join a Board of Directors? You can get publicity for all of that. Share that information with any organization where you are a member because they often like to share member successes with the entire organization! Also, ladies, here is just one place you can submit this information for free publicity. http://www.bizjournals.com/bizwomen/wotm
  1. Want to learn more about pitching your story with greater success? Here’s a great site to spend some time reading. I’m slightly addicted, myself. http://www.bestpitchievergot.com/
  1. Here is an affordable way to create a custom media list. You can search by city/state, newspaper and other specification. http://www.easymedialist.com/

NOTE: I have no affiliation with any of these resources and can’t vouch for them so please do your own due diligence.

These tools can make a big difference in how and where you communicate your message. For example, this past week I had a client on TV show, had another featured in a business magazine and booked yet another client on TV one of the top 5 markets in the United States using some of these tools and tips.

Listen….

You can do this yourself or if you’re ready to have someone do this work for you, we should talk! In July I’m taking on just one new private client who is ready to reap the rewards of building their brand and business through the credibility-building power of media coverage. Will it be you? This service is best for someone who is already out there blazing a trail, doing big things and is ready to pursue media coverage for their great work. This may look like writing books, keynote speaking across the United States, hitting a major milestone in your business financially or number of years in business, etc…

Sound like you? If so, let’s talk!
