I spent 2 days by myself and this is what happened…
This will probably either shock the heck out of you OR seem like I’m describing your life:
I have not spent one night alone in my own house in over 15 years.
Fifteen years! 1-5!
As an introvert, meaning I get my energy from being alone and quiet, the fact that this is true and I’m still functioning is quite astounding. And it’s probably the reason I can feel completely overwhelmed at times.
However, recently I had the opportunity to experience this phenomena of… being ALONE in my own house! And not just for one night. For TWO!
And not to sound like my teenage daughter, but OMG! It was amazing!
I specifically made no plans. Not only did I have 48 hours free from arranging carpools and sleepovers and food and activities and all of that jazz, I made no plans for drinks and dinner with friends, or shopping for my mom, or taking the dog to the groomer… absolutely nothing. I slept when I wanted to, ate when, where and what I wanted, I did whatever I wanted without having to consult with anyone or the clock.
It was HEAVEN!
I had time to think.
I had time to just be.
I had time to think about the next phase of how I’m showing up in the world.
And I had a revelation I want to share with you in case it resonates with you in some way: I have the desire to do more of the deeper coaching work I used to do with clients.
Here’s the thing:
I do enjoy the excitement of booking clients in the media to share their story with others, and I will continue to do that, but I also love coaching successful people who are ready to show up in the world in a bigger, more meaningful, and impactful way. I get a total “high” from helping success-minded people go from a place of comfort into a place of taking courageous action.
Sometimes that includes media, publicity, new programs, better messaging or new businesses, and sometimes that means bigger philanthropic work, focusing on a passion project that hasn’t been able to leave your thoughts for a long time or something else entirely. Many times it’s about identifying what that next thing is to begin with.
That work is completely up my alley. It jazzes me up to work with people who are stepping into something different and probably a bit scary, but super exciting nonetheless.
Does it to you too?
I will have more to come on this, but if you’re ready for coaching along these lines, just drop me a note and we’ll talk! For now I want to encourage you (and myself) to take more time to be alone with your thoughts and desires.
Time alone does wonderful things. It clears the cobwebs and allows ideas to flow.
Personally, I am now clear on what’s next for me.
And as a nice bonus, I also now have some clean drawers!
